This work explores the dynamic properties of the Bistable Arch. We investigated how the structure behaves when subjected to external excitation.

The experimental setup involved attaching end and central masses to a unit and mounting it on a shake table. When vibrated, the arch successfully demonstrates its ability to dynamically switch between its two stable states.

Arya Bosworth, our high school summer intern in 2025, executed all the fabrication and experimental work for this project. I provided initial guidance on fabrication techniques and helped in the development of the accompanying numerical model. Her final poster presentation is available here
